Dark red, with suspicions of the purple hue of youth, the wine is as satisfying on the nose as it is on the palate. Aromas of black and white pepper mingle with a combination of blueberries and blackberries, with hints of chocolate and lingering vanilla from the oak. Medium to full bodied with a pleasing balance, the wine has good fruit intensity with extended flavours of peppers, smooth tannins and a lifted berry finish. This wine is far more European and food-friendly in style than the big, ripe, jammy Shirazes that we tend to associate with Australia. It is a wine that deserves to be served with a Sunday roast, but is equally at home during the week with cold beef and baked potatoes.
